| Details | "The Possibilities of Japanese Dance" is a project that Japanese dancer Ranko Fujima has been continuing since 2018, exploring the fundamental appeal of Japanese dance through collaboration with other genres. In the first part, we will perform "Moji Shunjū," which depicts the history of Moji. Created in 2020 for the "East Asian Cultural City Kitakyushu 2020-21" exchange ceremony, and premiered without an audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this work, after a performance in Osaka in 2025, will finally be performed in Tokyo. The stage design will utilize "Kokura-ori," a traditional craft loaned by Kitakyushu City, richly reflecting the history of the region. In the second act, the Japanese dance unit "Goyokai" (Nishikawa Senzo, Hanayagi Juraku, Hanayagi Moto, Fujima Ranko, and Yamamura Tomogoro), comprised of five recipients of the Purple Ribbon Medal, will perform "Toyojin," an original dance drama that adapts Beaumarchais' play "The Barber of Seville, or Useless Caution" (known from Rossini's opera) to an Edo period setting. |
