| Details | [About the Exhibition] I believe there's a world you can only see by taking detours. "Detours" might not be a word used in a positive sense. In today's world, where going straight to your destination, cost-effectiveness, and time efficiency are emphasized, taking detours might seem like a roundabout way. However, if you only focus on your destination, you might be missing out on something. By looking in a different direction than usual and pausing for a moment, you can encounter things for the first time. Brush and ink, nails and thread. We will be exhibiting and selling calligraphy and string art works—things that seem familiar, but that you might not encounter unless you take detours. At the venue, you will find calligraphy works that express the feelings embedded in characters by engaging with their origins, meanings, and stroke order, using brush and ink, and string art works that create shapes by wrapping thread around nails hammered into a board, using overlapping colors and lines. String art is an expression that creates geometric patterns and various shapes by regularly wrapping thread around nails hammered into a board. Even using the same nail arrangement, the impression changes dramatically depending on the color of the thread chosen and the order in which it is hung, and the pattern gradually emerges with each layer of thread. Experience the powerful negative space created by the black ink and the intricate patterns drawn by the richly colored threads. Discover the unique world of Yoka Morooka, where different materials and techniques resonate together. During the exhibition, we will also be holding a workshop where you can create your own thread art, and a charity event, "Calligraphy Request," where we will calligraph you a single character of your choice on the spot. Enjoy not only viewing the artwork, but also the experience of creating your own thread and witnessing the moment a character is born. Enjoy a world that can only be seen by taking a detour. 【Thread Art Workshop】 We will be holding a thread art workshop led by Yoka Morooka. Enjoy the process of colors and lines overlapping and patterns emerging as you hang threads in order on nails hammered into a board. The workshop is designed for beginners, and you can take your completed artwork home with you. We will ask you to choose a character from those used in your name, characters representing your favorite words, or characters you would like to give yourself, and she will write it on postcard-sized paper. Please enjoy the time as the calligrapher moves the brush right before your eyes and a work of art is created. While the artist is present, orders will be accepted at any time, except during the string art workshop hours. You can take your finished artwork home with you immediately. Price: 2,000 yen (tax included) Size: Postcard size Contents: Your desired single character will be calligraphed on the spot. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to organizations supporting those affected by the Kumamoto earthquake. *During busy periods, there may be a waiting time for completion. [Artist Profile] Yoka Morooka She began calligraphy at the age of 6 and obtained her master's license in her mid-20s. In her late 30s, she opened a calligraphy school, teaching calligraphy to a wide range of ages, from elementary school students to those in their 80s. After turning 50, she discovered string art and currently creates and exhibits works combining calligraphy and string art. She also conducts calligraphy and string art workshops, valuing the feelings embedded in the characters and the individuality of each participant. |
